The Perfect Night In

The Perfect Night In

After an amazing heatwave, the weather here in the UK has taken a turn for the worst as it’s starting to become colder and much more autumnal. I am still desperately trying to hold on to summer and the warmth but I need to accept the inevitable, ‘Winter Is Coming’. To get me in the mood, I have been thinking about all of the cosy nights in and what makes them so perfect.

Films and Netflix

What is any night in without a few films or binge watching Netflix. There have been so many good shows out at the moment, my favourites being Power and Somebody Feed Phil (don’t watch if you are hungry, you’ve been warned) and of course To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. What better way to watch anything than on a new HD televisions from Panasonic

Clean Pyjamas

This is self explanatory. Honestly, is there a better feeling than getting out of the bath or shower and putting on a clean pair of pjs? It’s honestly one of my favourite things to do.

Hot Drink and Snacks

The essentials for any night in; snacks and all the hot drinks! Popcorn or something savoury like crisps are usually my go to snacks, but if you’re also like me and have a sweet tooth, a bit of chocolate always goes down a treat too. When it comes to hot drinks, if its getting a bit miserable outside I usually go for a hot chocolate or a cup of tea. As well as being tasty, they also warm you up and make you feel so snug.

A Bubble Bath

Usually, this goes at the start of my night but what is a night in without a bubble bath. I love nothing more than grabbing a Lush bath bomb or bubble bar, a face mask and some candles to really set a relaxing atmosphere. I could sit in the bath for hours as it’s the perfect place to destress and stay calm.

And there you go, my ‘go-to’s for having the perfect night in, whichI probably do at least 3 times a week. What makes up your perfect night in?

Staying Positive

I promise I had thought about the perfect opening line to this post for at least half an hour as I didn’t want to start on such a negative so here goes…1 always try to keep optimistic and upbeat but recently, there has been a lot of stress in various aspects of my life and I’m finding it difficult to evoke any form of positive emotion and that in itself is so tiring.

I realise that the moods that I get myself into and the way I behave has an impact of the people around me and this is something I have been trying to change. I have such supportive people around me but I often worry that when I moan to them, it brings them down too; especially when it is as regular as I do. My poor boyfriend has the patience of a saint I swear. It’s so common for people to feel down and I know that the best thing to do is to pick yourself back up and carry on but sometimes that is hard to do.

Usually what I like to do when I’m feeling deflated is stick to things that make me happy the most; like blogging. Blogging is something that can easily take a back seat due to lack of time and motivation and it shouldn’t. I love blogging as it allows me to be fully creative and really takes my focus away from anything else that is going on so even if it is a post that sits in my drafts and never sees the light of day, it is good to write something down and escape.

Photography has alway been my number one love but yet again I have really let this slip and honestly, apart from taking a few blog photos, I can’t tell you the last time I picked up my camera. Last weekend, me and Jack went out for a walk in a local country park and I told me camera with me. It was so lovely to take some time out and get shooting again, especially all the beautiful nature. I definitely need to do it more, it’s something I have such a strong love for. Here are a few pictures I took!

IMG_9754

IMG_9750

Work has been so stressful and I often find myself getting easily deflated if I’m having a bad day but I’ve started making sure that I take my full hour break (I was the worst at this and often used my ‘break’ to squeeze in extra work) and if I can feel myself getting worked up, I just remove myself for a few minutes to make a cup of tea to defuse my mood.

I’m just counting down the days until I am on holiday (8 by the time this goes up) so I can spend a week with some of my favourite people without a care in the world. Hopefully that gets me feeling myself again.

Orthosole Insoles

I haven’t been blessed with good balance and often find myself clumsily stumbling over literally nothing and hurting myself and a couple of years ago, I did just that. (I’m sure if you ask my sister, she will happily tell you this story with a tear of laughter rolling down her cheek) I was walking through a car park when I tried to get onto the curb but my foot slipped, I fell and subsequently ending up tearing a few of the ligaments in my foot which still causes me a bit of trouble to this day. I find that if I sit cross legged for more than 5 minutes it starts to get tender and if I drive for too long it gets really sore.

A few weeks ago I attended an event hosted by the South East Bloggers Club where I met the lovely people from OrthoSole, the customisable insole which has ‘multiple support options for your optimal comfort, fit, and performance.’ The insoles themselves come in various sizes and are accompanied with a bag of cushions with different levels of support ranging from ‘light, medium and firm’ which you can change depending on the level of support that you need. The cushions attach to the insoles by velcro so they can easily and quickly be changed depending on your requirement.

IMG_9685

OrthoSole insoles can aid many health issues including:

– Knee Pain
– Back Pain
– Foot Pain
– Ankle Pain
– Heel Pain
– Arch Pain (Plantar Fasciitis)
– Hip Pain
– Shin Splints
– Circulation
– Posture

After kindly being gifted a set of the ‘Thin Style’ insoles at the event, I have been testing them out to make sure I got as much feedback as possible. I have been wearing them in my converse and trainers and I have definitely noticed a difference. My posture seems to have improved and my foot doesn’t seem to get as sore as quickly, which is the most amazing feeling. I love that I can change the level of support especially when I know I will be wearing the insoles for the whole day as the firm cushions can become a bit too much, so I usually swap them to a light cushion so it’s not so intense but I can still be sure I am getting some benefits.

I love OrthoSole and honestly wonder why it took me so long to give something like this a go. Thank you OrthoSole for gifting me with a pair of insoles, I love them!

Travel With Me: Cologne, Germany

At the end of June, me and my boyfriend went to explore the city of Cologne. It’s actually taken me this long to write this post because I am still in denial about being home and back to reality.

I’ve been to Berlin but Cologne was never really a place that jumped out at me but oh my god I am so glad we decided to go as I have fallen in love. As I said, I have been to Berlin and I loved it but Cologne was extra special, from the little cobbled streets surrounded by bars to the padlock bridge stretching across the river, everywhere you turned there was something more to love.

36745292_10156633734749244_5859222680447746048_n

We arrived and went straight to the hotel to dump our luggage so we were free to explore. Obviously the first spot on our agenda was the cathedral which was so breath taking; I actually forgot the amount of times Jack and I said ‘It’s so big’, but it really was. We then had a little stroll towards the river and luckily found ourselves at the Lindt chocolate museum which was like stepping into Willy Wonker’s chocolate factory.

Day 2 was zoo day! Cologne is quite famous for its zoo so we couldn’t miss giving it a visit. After getting a little confused with the trains and contemplating a 50 minute walk, we soon arrived and I was like a child at Christmas. The whole day was perfect including the weather and the top highlight was seeing a racoon as I think they are adorable and one of my favourites. We finished the day off perfectly with dinner and a few drinks before an early night to recoup for the next day which was visiting the city of Bonn.

Like with Cologne, I didn’t have much expectations when it came to Bonn, but again I was very surprised with how beautiful it is. A city that was once the capital and the birthplace of Beethoven now holds a place in my heart. Bonn is full of little cobbled twists and turns and quirky bars and bistros and a Sephora that I had been excited for ever since we booked the trip.

Our last day was bittersweet; our flight wasn’t until 10pm so we had a full day but I couldn’t shake the feeling of dread and sadness knowing we were heading back to reality and eventually back to work. We did however make our last day the best it could be so we headed back to some of our favourite spots and visited a house that belonged to the Gestapo in WWII which had been covered into a museum – that was such an eye opening experience and I’m so glad we did it.

I already can’t wait to go back to Cologne and the whole trip is definitely up there with one of my favourites.

South East Blogger Club Event

Last Thursday, I was kindly invited to the South East Bloggers Club’s latest event; a bloggers and brand networking event. The evening was held at Jump Street in Chelmsford (which is hands down the coolest place to have an event) and was the perfect night to meet up with local bloggers and brands to meet and chat. These events are always my favourite because I love meeting local bloggers and making new friends.

36480446_10156621953394244_1535022733224574976_n

I arrived at the trampoline park completely unaware of what to expect especially as I went on my own; but I was greeted by the lovely girls from SEBC and immediaely felt at ease. To the left, there was a room full of bloggers and brands ready to mingle.

The first brand that I went to see was Happy Fabric where we were able to decorate our own little canvas coin purse/pouches. I like to think I am somewhat creative so this was great for me. On the front I added a decal that said ‘girls just want to have funds’ and on the back I decorated it with a pink glittery H and a few silver glitter flowers. Honestly, there was so many vinyls I could have used but I didn’t want to go too over the top so I had to limit myself.

36594195_10156621953469244_8493141460965654528_n

I then went to speak to the lovely people over at Chelsea Candle Company because duh, who doesn’t love a scented candle. There was so many beautiful scents and I honeslty could have bought them all there and then. They are all made out of Soy wax so the burn time is insane!

36550573_10156621953444244_6357090028065128448_n

The lovely people at Orthosole were also on hand to showcase their amazing orthopedic insole. A few years ago, I had a bit of a fall and tore the ligaments in my right ankle so I was quite excited to have a chat and find out a bit more about their insoles and if they could help when my foot gets a bit sore.

The whole night was so fantastic and I had such a laugh. Thank you so much to he lovely lot at the South East Bloggers Club for inviting me!

The Travel Tag

I’m going away to Germany on Tuesday and have been in holiday mode since we booked it back in April, so what better post to get up than a good old fashioned tag.

priscilla-du-preez-363211-unsplash

1. What’s the best place you’ve ever been to?

I have a few but the one place that sticks out the most is definitely New York, I could happily move there. That place has my heart.

2. Do you prefer going abroad or a staycation?

Both! I love going abroad and visiting new countries but there are still so many places in the UK that I would like to visit.

3. What are your fashion holiday essentials?

Depends on the trip, if it’s a city break then shoes are my number one essential, you need to be comfortable. But if it’s a beach holiday then probably swimming costumes, I am always in the pool.

4. Who’s your favourite person to go travelling with?

This will be my first holiday with my boyfriend so I’m sure he will become my favourite travel partner or my friends, as it would be a trip full of so much laughter and great memories.

5. What’s your favourite holiday memory?

One of my favourite trip memories is sitting in Central Park in NY with the sun shining through on ‘Strawberry Fields’ listening to a man play songs from The Beatles on his guitar and all these strangers gathering around to sing along. Such a beautiful sight.

6. If you could only go on holiday to one place for the rest of your life, where would you choose?

Probably Florida as I could live in Disneyworld forever!

7. Is there anywhere you’d avoid going?

Definitely not, I want to travel everywhere and anywhere.

8. Where was your first holiday?

My first holiday (I think) was to Walt Disney World in Florida.

9. Do you prefer relaxing or doing things on holiday?

A good mixture, I love days by the pool or at the beach but I definitely think if you’re spending money to visit a country, then you need to go out and explore it.

10. What are your beach bag essentials?

Suncream, headphones, a book, sunglasses and a big bottle of water.

11. Where are you travelling to next?

Germany and then Tenerife in September, how exciting!

Do You Need To Post On Social Media Daily To Keep Your Blog ‘Relevant’

Do You Need To Post On Social Media Daily To Keep Your Blog ‘Relevant’

Usually when I post a new blog, I always share it to my social media channels but as soon as it’s been shared once, I typically forget to advertise it again and then wonder why my DA gently drops. This got me thinking about the correlation between posting on social media everyday and the amount of views your blog posts get. Sometimes life gets in the way and it’s heartbreaking that it affects engagement levels and the way our blogs ‘succeed’.

IMG_E1424.JPG

Seeing that I sometimes go for spats of not posting (I’m trying to work on it, promise!), I have been trying to get some kind of content out on my socials and I definitely find that it has been driving views to my blog for the days that I don’t have a post to share.

Instagram can always be a little hit and miss, especially with the ever changing algorithm that makes it impossible for people to engage with your snaps; but it is great for quickly getting something online. I have been obsessed with Instagram stories lately and I use a few apps to change the layout of mine so that they stand out a bit more. I try to post something on there everyday and always make sure that I spread the love with comments and likes. The best thing about instagram is the fact you can add links so that people can click straight through to your blog without having to search for it, definitely something I love because let’s face it, I’m waaaaaay to lazy to be googling. Of course the odd few hashtags always helps too!

Screen Shot 2018-06-10 at 20.05.12.png

Scheduling tweets is definitely something that I need to do more, I always forget and then suddenly remember and go into over-drive of posting a tweet about every blog post and scheduling them for multiple times a day. I do however, find this to be a lifesaver if I am travelling, have a really busy week or when I am feeling a bit down as I don’t have to be clued to my laptop or phone for my content to be shared. It’s great because you can chose the days and times which you can match up to your blog stats to select the best time to post and having something posted on Twitter definitely keeps those views up.

Screen Shot 2018-06-10 at 20.03.36.png

To be completely honest, I don’t care how ‘successful’ my blog is and I try not to get caught up in the number game of how many followers do I have vs how many people am I following. I blog because it’s something I love and am proud of and if people read it and enjoy it, than that is an added bonus but it seems that without continously sharing and updating it, it can get lost in the big blogosphere.

Falling Back In Love With Blogging

For months, I have been falling in and out of love with blogging; always wanting to post something and stay active, but never knowing what to write. Well I have recently fallen back in love with blogging for the first time in so long; and boy have I missed it.

I think one of the main reasons that I stopped blogging regularly was because of my blog layout, I really wasn’t happy with it and felt that it was boring and plain. It didn’t draw in people’s attention so I knew the only way to change this would be to have a complete blog revamp. I browsed so many themes online and finally decided on one that suited my blog style and that would help show off my posts in the best way. Once I had installed it, I made sure that all of my social media links connected to the correct pages and I also added a ‘featured’ banner to showcase some of my favourite posts that I have written. Every time we buy something new and shiny, we become obsessed with it and my blog is a strong example of this, I am now so in love with it and every time I look at it, I am so proud of how it looks.

daan-stevens-404247-unsplash

I’ve heard from a few people about how toxic and unpleasant the blogging community can be; but, honestly, everyone that I have ever spoken to and met have been so lovely and supportive. Getting involved with such a creative community of people really helped re-fuel my love for blogging and everything that it stands for. I love getting involved in blogger chats on twitter and commenting on other peoples content whether that just be a tweet or an Instagram pic.

jess-watters-665172-unsplash

I’m so happy I have re found my passion for blogging and can’t believe I let it go for so long. I have so many new post ideas that I can’t wait to share.

Current Skincare Routine

Current Skincare Routine

My skin is so unpredictable so when I find a skincare routine/products that I love, I usually stick with it for a ridiculously long time; especially now that the weather is warmer and my face needs a little extra tlc.

My current routine is one that I have been using for a few weeks and I feel like it has improved the texture of my skin and it doesn’t look as dull or lifeless as it used too.

First step is to go in with everyones love; micellar water. I honestly can’t remember what I used to do without this little gem in my life; well I do, I used makeup wipes, which just makes me cringe internally. I get a couple of cotton pads and gently wipe away all my make up and then go in with a second round to make sure I get as much off as possible.

IMG_9606

The next step is my faaaavourite; cleanser. Now as you all know, because I bang on about it enough, my favourite cleaner is the hot cloth one from Aldi. I love how clean is makes my skin feel and it always surprises me how much make up comes off on the muslin cloth where the micellar water missed it. Some cleansers can be quite harsh for me as I have sensitive skin but I find that hot cloth ones are great as you only need a small amount and they are always full of such natural ingredients.

IMG_9607

Once I have removed the cleanser, I then apply a generous layer of toner. If you read my April Favourites post, you will know that I have been loving the Eau Roma Water toner from Lush as it has rose water and lavender in it, which I think is just so soothing on the skin and leaves me feeling so calm and refreshed.

IMG_9608

Lastly, the most important step, moisturiser. This is usually where I start having trouble because they either don’t moisturise my face enough and it still looks dry or it’s too heavy and makes me skin look oily and start to break out. The one I have been loving the most is actually from Boots’ own range and it is the cucumber daily moisturiser. I find that the cucumber really soothes my skin and I can always add more if I want more intense hydration which I usually do during the night.

April Favourites

April Favourites

I can’t believe that it is the end of April; where is this year going? Although, I don’t mind because I have so many exciting plans coming up this summer that I can’t wait for, so I’m happy to speed up time a bit. Also, speaking of summer, I can’t wait for it to get warmer, last week was scorching sun and now it’s rainy and miserable. Anyway, without further ado, here are some of my favourite products that I have been loving throughout April.

1. Gel Nails

I love having gel nails but unfortunately gel nail polish doesn’t really love me. With the brand I was using before, it would really irritate my nails and would make my fingers so sore and itchy, so I bit the bullet and treated myself to some proper CND Shellac polish including; base coat, top coat and a red shade. I only got one to give it ago incase it reacted badly again but it didn’t and I am so happy! There is nothing I love more than having perfectly painted, shiny nails so you can bet that I have raided Amazon for so many new colours.

IMG_9582

2. Aldi’s Hot Cloth Cleaner

If you read my last post, you will know that I have been raving about the hot cloth cleanser from Aldi – the perfect Liz Earle dupe; and April has made me love it even more. I have been using it every day since I got it and I have noticed such an improvement in my skin and even the way my make up applies in the mornings. I honestly could sit here all day raving about it but that would be pretty boring to read.

IMG_9589

3. Lush’s Eau Roma Water Toner

Toner is usually a step that I forget in my skincare routine but recently I have rediscovered my love for it and in particular the Eau Roma Water from Lush. It has rose water and lavender in it so it is really moisturising and calms my skin which is great, especially when I use it before bed – the lavender also helps me to sleep and stops me getting so anxious. It is a newly added step that I don’t plan on forgetting again.

IMG_9590

4. Makeup Revolution Pro’s Supreme Matte Lip Pigment

This is actually a product that I was gifted back at the Makeup Revolution birthday party and it’s now become a staple for everyday of the week. I don’t usually like matte lip products because my lips get really dry but this has been amazing, it doesn’t leave my lips feeling flaky and the colour is so pretty – a dark nude which is perfect for everyday looks but also for nights out if I have a darker eye.
